RZE Resolute 36 review
Perfect Proportions? A Month with the RZE Resolute 36 Crystal Black
...and a Dial Choice That Probably Reveals Too Much About Me
If you have been following me on Instagram, then you probably know I am quite a fan of field watches. Especially modern ones. And when I saw that RZE is bringing a new version of the Resolute to their collection: a 36 mm titanium field watch, I knew right away that I needed one, fast.
Now, I've been spending almost a month with the Crystal Black version, and yeah, this is exactly what I want on my wrist right now.
But why do I like it so much?
A Quick Look at RZE
At a Glance: RZE Resolute 36
Case: Grade 2 Titanium with UltraHex™ (1200 Hv)
Size: 36 mm (42.3 mm lug-to-lug)
Movement: Miyota 9039 (Automatic, High-beat)
Water Resistance: 100 m
Price: $599 USD
Verdict: A lightweight, scratch-resistant modern field watch that punches above its weight class.
They make titanium watches built for real use. Light, durable, and modern. And that's a huge part of why the original 40 mm Resolute was such a hit. It was simple, tough, and looked good without trying too hard but unfortunately it was bit too large for my wrist. The new 36 mm version feels like the perfect next step for the line and great watch on paper for me. Smaller, cleaner, even a bit dressy, but still very much a Resolute.
RZE Resolute 36 Case & UltraHex™ Titanium
The watch and bracelet are made from Grade 2 titanium with UltraHex™ coating (1200 Hv). Lightweight, hypoallergenic, and super scratch resistant. I like to wear my watches (even if Instagram makes it look like I'm not taking any of my watches out from my studio…). UltraHex makes the surface hardness high enough that I can actually wear this thing without babying it.
Dimensions: 36 mm diameter, 9.5 mm thick, 42.3 mm lug-to-lug, 20 mm lug width. Feels well balanced on the wrist and size and shape make this super comfortable to wear.
You can confidently wear this one with a suit or jeans. And it's so light, totaling around 90 grams (36 g case only), that after a while you genuinely forget it's on your wrist.
Dial & Design
Now comes the part where I have to admit something: I'm boring with dial colors.
Don't get me wrong, I love green, red, blue, salmon, and I have watches with some of those colors. But for me, black, grey, and maybe sometimes white are the way to go. I just like simplicity. I want a watch that works with pretty much every strap in my drawer and doesn't fight with my outfits.
That's why I went for the Crystal Black dial, even though all four colors look great:
Black (Waypoint), Ice Blue (Halcyon), Red (Tempo), Green (Mojito)
Black is versatile. Clean. Safe.
And yes, maybe a little boring… but my kind of boring.
Dial Details and the Miyota 9039 Movement
The dial isn't just flat black. It has texture and depth: a textured outer ring, applied indices, and a sunburst center area. It makes the watch versatile but not boring in any way. The dial really likes to play with light.
It's simple but refined. Easy to shoot, easy to read, easy to wear. Covered with a flat AR-coated sapphire crystal, legibility stays excellent indoors and outdoors.
Inside the Resolute 36 ticks the Miyota 9039. It's thin, which helps keep the watch under 10 mm. 28,800 bph make the second hand sweep smoothly and 42-hour power reserve with hacking + hand-winding. The movement does not disappoint. Promised accuracy is between -10 to +30 sec/day. Mine has been steady +4 seconds per day which is great.
Bracelet & Strap Options
Even though I might be a bit boring with dial colors, I try to be playful with straps, but let's start with the bracelet. It matches the case perfectly. It's light, comfortable, and great on the wrist. Built-in micro-adjustments keep the watch comfortably in place on your wrist.
But the 20 mm lug width and clean case shape make this watch work well with all straps: rubber, NATO, canvas, leather… every single one works.
And this is one of the main reasons I prefer black dials. It gives me the versatility to dress the watch the way I like. Maybe go tactical with black rubber, casual with the bracelet, clean, sporty, whatever… it works every time.
How It Actually Wears Day-To-Day
Throughout the month, I've worn this watch in multiple situations, even though my feed makes it look like I never get out of my studio. It's extremely light, never catches on a sleeve, and feels balanced on the wrist.
It's one of those "grab it and go" watches. Just throw it on your wrist and you're ready.
Final Thoughts — This Is the Kind of Watch That Stays in the Rotation
For around $599 USD, you get:
- Full titanium build with UltraHex™ coating
- Sapphire crystal + AR
- Miyota 9039
- 100 m water resistance
- Excellent finishing
- Great proportions
- A modern field watch that is extremely wearable and comfortable
I think the RZE Resolute 36 Crystal Black is a perfect addition to RZE's lineup and a great option for anyone looking for a dressier field watch. It's a simple, tough, lightweight, great-looking everyday watch. Doesn't matter if you're in the boardroom or out in the wild, this watch doesn't let you down.
So if you like clean, modern, functional design, and you want something you don't have to worry about, you'll probably love this watch.
I genuinely do.
